Syrah Wine Parlor in San Diego

There's a new wine bar that opened in San Diego a while ago, and I've been meaning to try it out, but haven't had the chance until last Friday! My friend Chrissy celebrated her birthday there and I was pretty excited to see it. It's called Vin de Syrah Spirit and Wine Parlor, or Syrah for short, and I love love love it. I would say the decor is a modern twist on Alice and Wonderland and also reminds me of some Anthropologie windows I've seen. Unfortunately it was way too busy for me to snap any pix of the decor, but I was able to find the following on Google images and the Syrah website. It's meant to feel as if you were in the rabbit hole.

 

 

 

 

I was in heaven and definitely plan on going back. The wine was reasonably priced (and by 'reasonably' I mean that it wasn't any more or less expensive than the other bars in the gaslamp). 

Me, before leaving the apt. Boyfriend being silly with the camera so I started being bratty b/c I wasn't getting the pic I wanted.

 

I was over it and started walking away, so boyfriend kept shooting. But this one is a good indicator of the slight bubbliness on the bottom of my dress. Also, as you can see, I had in my extensions and this was the day before my hair appt in which I darkened the bright blonde a bit and chopped it off.

I'm a dummy I didn't get any pix with the bday girl Chrissy :^( I will be going back here at some point and would like to snap more pix when it's not so crowded.

Has anyone else been here? Or is there something out there that's similar that you know of?

New healthy hair!

For various reasons my hair has been damaged upon repair. So last week I made the decision to go see my stylist Candice and to simply cut off the death. There was just no fixing it at this point, so it had to go. My appointment was on Saturday, so I'm still getting used to it. Here's the new cut, wind blown dry, with no heat or products or styling.

My hair was getting long, and I do miss it, but this is the best thing for my locks. Cut your hair to grow your hair, right?! I believe Laura has even mentioned that recently and I know that Kelly has done the same (btw, I don't personally know these girls, but their blogs are my religion and I heart them). 

I also went back to using my Matrix Sleek Look Shampoo & Conditioner because I like the soft way it makes my hair feel. My K-Pak deep conditioner will be once every 1-2 weeks (b/c you can over-condition). And I'll be getting rid of all my Aveda products (they hate me for some reason and I'm bummed about this).

What do you think? Good decisions?

My Locks are Lacking

I would like to think that I take good care of my hair, but in reviewing its quality lately, I might have to re-think that statement. Seemingly out of no where, my hair is broken, damaged, dry, uncooperative and an all around hot mess. I can’t figure it out.

Yes, I have always bleached my hair. Yes, my hair grows quickly and therefore I typically have appointments every 5 weeks. So that really shouldn’t have too much of an affect. I use my KPak deep conditioner once a week, I avoid heat as much as possible, and I drink my water. What gives?!

I typically use a different shampoo each wash, just to mix it up so that my hair doesn’t get used to one and in essence stops being as effective. Right now my shampoos are Organix Moisturizing Coconut Milk, John Freida Sheer Blonde, Aveda Damage Remedy, & Head and Shoulders.

My daily conditioners are Matrix Sleek Look or Aveda Blue Malva, and then weekly I use the Joico K-PAK Deep-Penetrating Reconstructor which I typically leave in overnight.

Perhaps my hair needs different/better products? What am I doing wrong?

Girls, its time to say no!no!

To unwanted hair that is. I saw the no!no! hair removal system when it first came out and was skeptical so I followed the progress and reviews for several months, trying to find the flaw. I have very sensitive skin (to the point where my own Dr. said I had to ditch razors), waxing is so painful I'll never go back, and professional laser hair removal was just getting too expensive for me (about $100 a session for the bikini area alone!).

Sooo...I finally broke down and went into Sephora to chat about buying the adorable pink thing that seemed to good to be true.

I've been using it for a few months now, as regularly as I can, and so far so good. It takes just slightly longer than shaving, so I only use it when I'm not in a huge rush. The thing to remember is that its more of a long term solution and not a replacement to shaving each morning. There is still some stubble immediately after use. The downside is the burnt hair smell, which is fairly strong, but I combat that by lighting scented oil before I start. I have definitely noticed less hair growth, more sparse if you will. I use it on my legs, bikini, and underarms and probably only need to shave about twice a week now.

Overall, for this price, I would say it is definitely worth it and am looking forward to reviewing results in another 3 months.

Hair Stylist in San Diego (Pacific Beach)

I will say right up front that I am super picky when it comes to my hair. My best friend is a stylist and has been doing my hair for as long as I can remember. When she moved up north last year I needed to find a new stylist, so I started going to Misty, whom I love. But its hard for me to schedule going to Mission Valley, so I needed to find someone in PB or downtown. Imagine my dread. I even let my roots grow out for a while, I was so nervous to try someone new.

And then I met Candice.

She brought me into Split Ends and I swear I will never leave. Candice and her assistants did such a great job on my cut and highlights! It was exactly what I pictured in my mind and I have gotten a zillion compliments since. The price was right too; actually cheaper than other places around town. They even hook you up if you're a first time customer. Excellent personal attention to each customer, even though they're super busy. Oh, and there's a parking lot in back if you need, or a bike rack out front which is great.

Hair Stylist in San Diego (Mission Valley)

Becca hooked it up on my hair for years, ever since she graduated stylist school in Sac. And then she left me (and San Diego) for NorCal. But instead of abandoning me, she referred me to our good friend Misty Stephens, whom I love! Cut, color, conditioning and styling - I go to Misty for it all and she's fantastic. I trust her with what I ask for, I feel totally comfortable in her chair, and she's worth every penny.
